The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare

In Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, a tyrannous leader becomes jealous of his best friend and envious of his virtuous pregnant wife. A false accusation of infidelity, the story is set in motion causing loyal friends to flee; chaos at the court; and an assumed death. With blasphemous defiance, the king is repaid for his insolence with the death of his first born and the loss of his second. But with the healing powers of the passage of time, the play finds a soulful resolution. This innovative production designed and directed by Brenda Lynn Bynum was updated to the 1950s during the height of McCarthyism and then 16 years later in 1971. The cast included Miles Blitch, Eibhlin Brennan, Zoe Burke, Kathi Collins, Joey Beth Gilbert, Anika Heinonen, Vaughn Irving, James Jenner, Abram Klaassen, Howard Miller, Yannig Morin, Steven Oakey, Sarah Runyan, Noah Segard, and Alexander Shicoff.
